UPDATE DEC 23, 2000
Protecting
The Crazy Horse Name
Friends,
As you plan your year end shopping, consider an act
of consumer choice. Send this on to friends! Print out
the letter and drop it off at the nearest JC Penney's near you!!
You could also fax a copy on to the Corporate
leadership, whose names and numbers appear below.
Maybe Liz Claiborne and J.C. Penney might change their ways for the New
Millennium!! You know they wouldn't like any one using their names
without permission ...
On behalf of his Relations,
Thank you.
Bob Gough

HEALTH: ICT:
Confronting diabetes with tradition
It is difficult to refute the fact that change of
diet (and lifestyle) has caused serious health problems for Native people.
It shows up with a vengeance in diabetes, a killer and disabler of major
proportions in Indian country. Diabetes is an enemy that must be confronted:
with
traditional cultural knowledge, new scientific information,
with encouragement and practical programming. Spirit and body need a lot
of help...READ

TODAY IN HISTORY December
23
{EXCERPTED FROMOn
This Date In North American Indian History
By Phil Konstantin}
1813: Today, almost 850
militia from Natchez, led by Brigadier General
Ferdinand Claiborne, and 150 CHOCTAWs, led by Chief
Pushmataha, will attack the Red Stick CREEKs at a secret holy site, called
the Hickory Ground, in present day Lowndes County, Alabama. Although Red
Stick Chief William Weatherford (Lume Chathi - Red Eagle) will survive
by jumping off a cliff on his horse into the Alabama River, the CREEKs
will lose the battle. This will be called "The Battle of
Econochaca" or "The Battle of the Holy Ground." Along
with losing approximately 33 Red stick warriors, the CREEKs will lose many
prophets, as well. This will be a serious blow to their moral. The Americans
reported only 1 soldier being killed.

Religious organizations are exempt from landmark preservation

Supreme Court ruled Thursday. The court, voting 4-3, upheld the
constitutionality of a 1994 state law which, it said,
neither endorsed
religion nor provided improper state assistance.
